Commercial insurance · Bedford & Halifax

Send me your policy. I’ll tell you what isn’t covered.

I’m Rayanur Rahman. I write commercial insurance for restaurants, contractors, transport companies and property owners across the Halifax Regional Municipality, through Western Financial Group in Bedford.

No obligation, and nothing is bound until you say so.

Not sure what you’re actually covered for?

Most owners find out at claim time. Send me your current declaration page and tell me what you do. I’ll read it properly and come back with the gaps: the exclusions nobody walked you through, the limits that stopped matching what you own, the coverage your lease or your contract requires that isn’t on the policy.

It costs nothing, and you’re under no obligation to move your policy afterwards. Plenty of people get the review and stay where they are.

Who I work with

Four industries, because those are the ones I know well enough to argue with an underwriter about.

Commercial kitchen with hood and stainless steel line

Restaurants

A kitchen fire, a walk-in that fails on a long weekend, the slip in the entryway in February. Restaurant policies are usually thin in the same two places: equipment breakdown, and how long they’ll pay you while you rebuild.

Restaurant insurance

Urban construction site with excavator and hoarding

Contractors

Tools gone off the trailer, a sub who turns out to be uninsured, and a certificate the general contractor keeps sending back. Send me the contract itself, not just the request. Half the job is making the certificate satisfy the clause.

Contractor insurance

Row of commercial trucks parked in a yard

Transportation

One driver’s abstract can move the rate on the whole fleet. Cargo, downtime and how far you run are where these accounts get won or lost, and a clean submission is worth real money at renewal.

Fleet insurance

Red brick commercial building with terraces

Commercial property

Building values that haven’t been touched since you bought the place, and a unit sitting empty that nobody told the insurer about. Both are cheap to fix now and expensive to discover during a claim.

Local Business Stories

I interview the people who actually built something here.

I sit down with owners around Halifax and ask what it cost to open, what nearly ended it, and what they’d do differently. It started as a series on Instagram. Most of what I know about running a business in this province came out of those conversations rather than out of a policy wording.

How I work

I ask about the business first

Before markets, before pricing. What you do, who you do it for, and what would actually hurt if it stopped for a month.

I take it to market properly

Standard markets when they’ll take it, specialty and MGA markets when they won’t. Rolling over with the same insurer six years running should be a decision, not the path of least resistance.

I tell you what isn’t covered

You should hear about the exclusions the day you sign, not the day you claim. That conversation is uncomfortable once and useful forever.

Tell me what you run.

Your industry, roughly what you do, and when the policy renews. That’s enough for me to tell you whether I can help.
